Working together in Unity

When God’s people get together and work together, His presence in their midst soon becomes recognizable to everyone because His blessings of cooperation, coordination, and synergy stand out as a testimony to Him being honored and glorified. This month’s story is from several parts of West Africa where our CHE teams are working. The local CHE teams decided to work with other like-minded Christian organizations to utilize their programs alongside MAI’s CHE programs. The results were spectacular. Here is their story:

In the small village of Memeh in The Gambia’s North Bank Region, it has been difficult for the women to survive. Their breadwinners could provide very little income. This income has never been enough to meet the needs of the entire family.

With the CHE leaders, a decision was made to teach the women to make soap using the available resources. The training was carried out by the team. As a result, many of the ladies of Memeh were able to put their training into practice and they started producing soap, both liquid and as a soap bar. In turn, the soap could be taken to the city and sold. This allowed families in the village to increase their income, as well as fulfill their family’s needs. Through this act of kindness and willingness to teach the people were introduced to the gospel.

A medical outreach was organized at Awo Omama community in Imo state by a partner of MAI, ’Great Story International’. The team was able to perform 21 cataract surgeries, numerous and many other minor surgeries, distribute Bibles and provide farm implements to farmers. In addition, mosquito nets were provided to pregnant women, nursing mothers, and elderly people. To top it all off, a group of over 200 people attended the follow-up meetings at the end of 2021, and several people became enthusiastic Christ-followers.

In another village, the training team identified the community of Sukuta, Gambia. The team decided to start a seed project in the community teaching youths how to grow onions as a business. This project allowed them to increase their income. Through this seed project, our team was able to plant a seed in their hearts and engage them in studying the Word.

Through it all, the local CHE team discovered how effective it was to work in partnership with other Christian organizations to promote CHE more effectively.

God’s word says, ”how good and pleasant it is when brothers (and sisters) live together in unity.” Psalm 133:1
