In the heart of Jungle Farm, Liberia, a quiet yet powerful transformation is taking place. For years, Rev. Joseph Harris Gbeyan watched as individuals with disabilities were marginalized, overlooked, and left without opportunities to thrive. As a pastor, he felt called to serve them—but he lacked the resources and training to make a lasting impact.
That all changed when Grassroots Ministry Liberia (GML), in partnership with Medical Ambassadors International (MAI), sent him to Ghana for specialized training in disability support. The experience opened his eyes to new ways of serving both the physical and spiritual needs of his community.
Today, Rev. Gbeyan is back in Liberia, working alongside Korean church planters to bring hope, dignity, and transformation to disabled individuals. His story is a powerful reminder of how equipping one leader can spark change for an entire community.
A Journey of Learning and Vision
When Rev. Gbeyan first traveled to Ghana for disability training, he had no idea how much it would reshape his ministry. Through weeks of hands-on learning, mentorship, and real-world application, he discovered practical ways to integrate disability support into church ministry.
He learned:
✔ How to train caregivers and family members to support disabled individuals.
✔ Strategies for creating inclusive spaces in churches where people with disabilities can participate fully.
✔ Ways to advocate for resources and services to improve the lives of those often forgotten.
Bringing Transformation to Jungle Farm
When Rev. Gbeyan returned to Liberia, he wasted no time putting his training into action. Partnering with Korean church planters, he began working directly with disabled individuals and their families.
Here’s how his work is making a difference:
- New Opportunities for the Disabled – Individuals who were once excluded from church and community activities are now welcomed, valued, and supported.
- Mindset Shifts in the Local Church – Through teaching and awareness, church members now see disability not as a burden, but as an opportunity for ministry and inclusion.
- Community Impact Beyond the Church – His work is inspiring other pastors and leaders to seek training and implement similar programs in their own communities.
This is more than just one pastor’s story—it’s a testament to the power of investment in leadership development. When organizations like GML and MAI equip local leaders with training and resources, the ripple effects are immeasurable.
Rev. Gbeyan’s journey highlights:
✨ The importance of training and equipping leaders to meet practical needs.
✨ How faith and action can go hand-in-hand to bring about real change.
✨ The potential for transformation when communities embrace inclusion and compassion.
As Liberia continues to raise up more Community Health Evangelism (CHE) leaders, the need for resources, training, and support is greater than ever. Stories like Rev. Gbeyan’s remind us that a single investment in training can lead to a lifetime of transformation.
