In a quiet village in Western Kenya, a simple home visit sparked a transformation. What began as curiosity turned into conviction—and one man’s choice to act opened the door to a new way of life for himself and his neighbors.
Andewa lives in Urudi Ratta, a rural village in Kisumu County. A husband, father of four, and long-time resident, he had recently moved into a new home. Like many in the region, his land sat largely unused, and home improvement felt like a distant dream.
That changed the day he visited the home of a local CHE trainer.
The neat compound, thoughtful layout, and visible signs of faith and intentional living stirred something within him.
He didn’t just admire the changes—he wanted to learn.
Andewa invited the trainers to visit his own home and even mobilized his neighbors for an awareness meeting. In the months that followed, a beautiful shift began. He cleared and cultivated the fallow land near his house, planting vegetables for family use and for sale. He began investing in physical improvements around his home. Most strikingly, he developed a deep hunger for the Word of God.
Today, Andewa isn’t just implementing what he learned—he’s helping others do the same. He’s become a local champion of the “Healthy Homes” campaign, encouraging his neighbors toward cleanliness, nutrition, and spiritual growth.
This is what wholistic transformation looks like. When local leaders see what’s possible, they don’t just change their own lives—they begin to multiply change around them. MAI’s role is to equip and walk alongside people like Andewa, so that dignity is restored and hope begins to flourish from within the community.
One home. One decision. One ripple of change. Andewa’s story reminds us that transformation doesn’t have to start with funding or outside projects—it starts with vision, faith, and one person willing to take the first step.
At MAI, we’re honored to support leaders like Andewa who are reclaiming their God-given purpose and helping their communities flourish.
