Stories That Build Bridges: Hope Rising in the Amazon

In the heart of the Amazon, a quiet but powerful movement is taking shape — one story at a time.

Two indigenous leaders, Pastor Alan of the Mayuruna people and Missionary Lita of the Kocama tribe, recently joined a vision seminar in a remote Colombian village. Just months ago, they hesitated to speak in front of others, stumbling over details and feeling unsure of their voice. But something has changed.

This time, they stood before a group of peers, confidently sharing Bible-based stories in their own words and style. Pastor Alan told the tale of the mouse. Lita shared the story of the mountain. Their delivery was simple, clear, and unforgettable.

These stories weren’t just lessons — they were bridges. Bridges between communities. Bridges across cultures. And bridges between the gospel and the daily lives of their people.

What made this moment so special?

It was the fruit of patient, relational work — training leaders not with handouts, but with tools they can use and pass on. Cal and the team at Instituto Vida in Brazil are equipping leaders like Alan and Lita through a process rooted in oral learning, story-sharing, and deep cultural understanding.

And they’re not stopping there.

New trainings are planned in the Amazon basin, and microenterprise training is opening the door for sustainable livelihoods.

At Medical Ambassadors International, we equip communities through Christ-centered health and development, helping people break cycles of poverty and build futures filled with dignity and hope. The work in Brazil and Colombia is one vibrant piece of that bigger picture.

Let’s continue building bridges — through stories, through leaders, and through hope.

Will you pray with us? Will you give to support indigenous leaders like Pastor Alan and Lita?

Together, we can see dignity take root in even the most remote corners of the world.
