In the rural village of Ngulungu in Katanda, nights used to be shrouded in darkness. With kerosene lamps disappearing from the market and no access to electricity, families struggled to light their homes. But in the face of this challenge, something remarkable happened.
At a community committee meeting, local leaders decided to plant a communal cornfield—not for food alone, but for transformation. They sold the harvest—70 sacks of cowpeas and a hectare of cassava—and used the profits to buy solar-powered streetlamps for every household.
Today, the village shines. Children read after dark. Families cook and pray together without fear. And best of all, this initiative came from the community itself—a powerful example of what happens when people are empowered to lead change.
This is just one of many stories from across the DRC where hope is taking root in the most difficult of places. Local leaders are also bringing trauma healing to war-affected areas, supporting new CHE programs in Kinshasa and beyond, and planting churches and small discipleship groups at an inspiring pace.
At Medical Ambassadors International, we equip communities through Christ-centered health and development, helping people break cycles of poverty and build futures filled with dignity and hope.
You can be part of this transformation.
Pray. Give. Share the story.
