In IDMM, discovery groups serve as spaces where spiritual, physical, emotional, and
social growth happen together. Each week in Nazbad district in Central Asia, group
members pray and seek ways to express love within their communities, whether
individually or collectively. They are also trained in practical skills to organize small
community outreach activities using local resources, and through these efforts,
volunteers often emerge as leaders who help bring positive transformation to their
communities. During the past quarter, discovery groups in the district studied health
topics such as physical exercise, prevention of acid reflux, and eye care, while also
discussing moral challenges, including the struggles faced by refugees and displaced
families, which are common in the region. Using simple discovery Bible study
questions, participants reflected on stories such as the Canaanite woman, Noah,
Gideon, Elijah, and teachings about God as our Provider, helping them apply spiritual
truths to everyday life. Across the district, five active volunteers are encouraging
community ownership and supporting work in ten communities where sixteen
discovery groups now meet regularly, and during the last quarter, these ongoing
efforts led to twenty-one new believers.
Acts of practical love continue to grow from these groups. Amina, a discovery group
member, demonstrated exceptional kindness toward two very poor children in her
village who could not afford school fees. She helped them enroll in school, pays their
fees herself, and supports them with homework and studies at home without charging
anything, giving them the opportunity for education and a hopeful future. In another
example, Mehwish, also a discovery group member, showed compassion to an elderly
man while traveling by bus. She noticed him repeatedly counting his money because
he did not have enough to pay the fare, and remembering the teaching about loving
one’s neighbor, she paid his bus fare so he could continue his journey with dignity and
relief.
